• The 3 most successful genres at the UK box office are Animation (with Despicable me 2), Action (with Iron Man 3) and comedy (with The Hangover Part III).
• The 3 least successful genres at the UK box office are Romance (with a gross box office of  13.9 mill.), Documentary (with a gross box office of 10.7 mill.) and War (with a gross box office of 0.3 million).

• The genre with the most film releases in 2013-14 is comedy- with a number of 153 releases.
• The number of animated films made in 2013-14 is

• This information about genre tells me:

1.  About production and the amount of money spent to create the films and the investments the production and distribution companies make towards the film. The more the production and distribution companies invest, the more likely is the success of the film as the budget will allow greater equipment, actors, marketing, etc.
2. About the audiences views and the different categories of audiences preference towards a genre in those particular years. We can see that in 2013-14 the most preferred genres are animation action and comedy, which means the public spend more money watching these genres than all the other ones.

• The largest proportion of cinema admissions in the UK are from the age gruop of 15-24.
• The comedy film most successful with this age group is 'The Hangover Part III'.
• The most popular film with audience over 50 is 'Quartel' which is a drama/comedy film.
• The most popular genres with men are: Thriller, action and comedy.
• The most popular genres with women are: Romantic comedies, animated films and celebraty documentaries.

This tells me that the preferred genres for this age group are animation and celebrity documentaries.

• The 3 most popular film with the age group 35-44 were'Frozen',The Croods' and'Jack and the Giant Slayer'. This may be because they have children or young ones in their family which they like to take or because the films are well advertised and in a way which makes this audience group want to view the film.
• The 3 most popular films with the age group 25-34 are:

2. Fast and Furious 
3. Rush

• The most popular films with the C1 type audience are: Rush, Gravity and Captain Phillips.
• The most popular films with C2 type audience are: Oz the great and powerful, Fast and Furious and Despicable me 2.
• In Scotland the most popular films are: About Time, Monsters University and Despicable me 2.
• In London the most popular films are: Gravity and Fast and Furious.

• Scotland seems to be more in favour of mostly family-friendly films. This suggests that going to the cinema in Scotland may often be a family outing. In London thrillers and actions seems to be preferred suggesting children aren't the biggest audience group there.
