Purpose of a title sequence and film opening
The purpose of a title sequence is to give the audience a slight idea of what the plot of the movie may include, as well as giving away the genre. this can be done through a variety of different ways and techniques, this may include the music being played, the beat of the background music can create a tone for the movie, for example, if the title sequence has an aggressive fast paced music playing in the background, the audience may assume that the genre could be an action film rather than a romance. Also the shot types can create tone within the movie, by this i mean that through the use of extreme close ups and cut ins this can emphasise emotions portrayed by the characters creating a dramatic effect. Also in a title sequence credits are shows, therefore if an actor is casted who is also a house hold name, they will appear before any other actors credits, this is because their name is also used as a marketing scheme to attract a wider audience even if the movie is not what they usually gravitate towards.
The purpose of a film opening is to introduce the characters to the audience, this may be done through the use of music being played whilst they are introduced, therefore if light playful music is playing whilst a character is introduced, the audience may assume that they are the antagonists. The film opening also allows the audience to get a better understanding of what the plot will consist of without giving too much away, however some film openings begin with a traumatic event and then as the film goes on it is exposed to the audience how this event may of happened. This is a way of attracting the audience and giving them an expectation of the film
