Blog Task 9-Analysing the titles of my favourite film-The Dark Knight

Analysing titles:

In this blogpost i am going to be analysing the titles of my favourite film.
Just like in my previous gone girl post i will be taking pictures of the order in which the titles come up and give some statements at the end.

The movie i am analysing the titles of is ;The Dark Knight
The dark knight is a movie with the main theme/genre being Action and superhero film however is a hybrid consisting of Superhero, Film-Noir, Neo-Noir,Adventure,crime and drama.

The title sequence starts off with a black screen. It then fades into a scene where a mysterious character is shown staring . This translates into the plot of the film as a majority of it centeres around batman hiding his identity- the audience are thus introduced to this from the onset. Amplifying this is the use of dark lighting. Darkness is often associated with mystery- once again indicating to the audience that in the beginning of the film they are unaware of many things but as the film progresses they will unravel more about the plot and its protagonists. Darkness has various connotations- one specifically is that revolving around Desolation, destruction, morality and evil.
This is confirmed as, when the title sequence continues further on, we see the use of destruction on CGI.
We see different cards scattered on the floor, the cards are burnt and the we can see rubble on the floor. The audience are also shown huge flames all over the place. Now, the director of the film and the choreographer of the title sequence has easily been able to represent the codes and conventions of the genres he is wanting to represent. The flames representing action. The eerie music for drama and horror. The darkness and its connotations allowing the audience to recall the ideas of Noir.

For sound;
We get a very eerie soundtrack that has a ringing tone to it-(it is complemented by a very quiet crazed giggle). This ringing tone continues for about half of the title sequence. This is used to build up tension as whilst it is playing, it gradually gets louder and louder. Other sounds are also introduced to add to the tension and set the audience in scene such as the sounds of a clock constantly ticking. Another sound that is introduced that is seemingly the most unsettling is the laugh of a crazed joker.
The jokers voice intercepts into the sound of the eerie music, he interrupts it,alongside with a loud roar and then the music changes unsubtle into a very upbeat pacing piece of music. This is to show that this character is one of the main characters in the film. The fact that his laugh is in a spazmatic portrayal allows us to infer that the character will play the role of the villain.
Lastly, when the final section of credits are introduced, the main theme of the dark knight enters a stage where hymns and upbeat violins are introduced. This is to show the audience that the film contains the themes of an adventure film.

They use the sound as a good way to start introducing the title credits for the film. They use a good method of cinematography to coherently introduce all of the roles of the people in the film. They use zoom in's and many panning shots to introduce the names of actors etc whilst also keeping the theme of destruction.

The cinematography of the title sequence is very unique. They use a series of different close up shots and long shots. This is too allow the audience to be set in the motion that the character and what they are seeing in the title sequence is important-whilst not giving away too much information. They introduce the most important credits by using transitions such as fades and dissolve in/out.

Here is the order of the credits in the title sequence:
1)Warner bros.Pictures - distribution company.
2)Legendary Pictures - Production Company
3)Syncopy -Production company
4)Christopher Nolan - Film director
----
5) Christian Bale - Main Actor
6)Michael Cain - Actor
7)Heath Ledger - Actor
8)Gary Oldman - Actor
9)Maggie Gyllenhaal - Actress
10)Aaron Eckhart - Actor

17)Bob Kane - Creator of the Batman Comics(The film is based off of batman and its characters)
18)Christopher Nolan - Director
19)The Dark Knight - Titles Revealed.

After watching the entire title sequence i picked up on its order.
Firstly, the companies who are behind allowing the movie to be made and then coming to the public audiences - being Warner Bros, distribution, Legendary Pictures and Syncopy, both production companies are introduced first. Christopher Nolan, the film creator is introduced after.
This is because these 4 are the most important. We know this as they are even sepereated from the other credits by a black fade transition.
The Actors who are featured in the film are then credited after.
They are also separated by the last half of credits.
Lastly the separate important roles such as production designers, music, screenplay and more are all lastly credited and then the movies titles being 'The Dark Knight' is finally revealed.
