Genre and Audiences:

I have decided that in order for me to gain a better understanding in both genre and audiences it would be much better for me to do research. By doing research on genre it allows me to develop my knowledge on different genres in the box offices and preferences between different audience types.

Genres-Chapter 4.

After reading the genre section of the online book i have answered the following questions below as part of my research!


 1) Which 3 genres were most successful at the UK box office:
The 3 genres that were most successful were Animation(21.4) Action 18.7() Comedy( 13.7).
The Animation Genre  was the most popular genre at the UK box office holding a huge amount being 21.4% of the box office and was earning £246.6 million. In fact the top  performing title was Despicable me 2.
The action genre was the second most popular, it held 18.7% of the box office and its gross was £215.4 million.
Lastly, the Comedy genre was the third most popular. It held up 13.7% of the box office. It earned £158.2 million.

2)Which 3 genres were least  popular or successful at the UK box office?
The 3 least popular genres at the UK box office were the following War (<0.1), Documentary(0.9) and Romance (1.2).
The war, documentary and romance  genres all earned the least amount of money in millions and held up the lowest percentage of UK box office.

3)Which film genre had the most films released in 2013-2014.
The film genre comedy had the most amount of films made being 153. This shows that in the UK box office this genre was very very popular.

4)How many films in this genre were made in 2013-14
153 films

5)How many animated films were made?
The amount of animated films were 33.

6)How many action films were made?
The amount of action films made were 47.

7)What does the information about the genre tell you about:

film production?
The information about the genre allow us to know how much money was spent on creating the actual movie. If the amount of money used to make the film was low, it usually results in the film being received not so well. If it is high, we know that the production and distribution companies have invested a lot of money which would ultimately result in the film having more quality equipment to produce a much greater film.
The most popular genres are Animation, action and comedy.

film audiences?
It allows us to understand that out of the amount of people who watched the movie. We can see if the people enjoyed the movie or not depending on the rating it received. Depending on how much gross box office is made also allows us to know if the film or that genre is popular. If it is low, it means that not many people paid to watch that genre of film meaning it wasn't favoured in those years.
They differentiate depending on age.
With adults, animation,action and comedy are the most popular.
