Blog health check 3 feedback
Overall, I am pleased with the grade I've received, I believe I've been slowly improving and now i feel comfortable with my grade, however there is still a few things that i will be doing until the dead line to see if i can improve my mark anymore so I can ensure a solid A grade. One of the first things i will do as a response to the feedback is post blog 54 to finish off the blog.
One of the things I will be doing to ensure a higher mark is
- post updates from the pitch such as production schedule
- create a final post evaluating the final product
- post missing task 54 which is a signing off post
- make adjustments to the font

Evaluation of final title sequence
Evaluating the final title sequence
In this blog post I will be evaluating my groups final title sequence, unfortunately I am unable to show clips from the final title sequence due to that not being allowed at this moment in time.
Overall I am pleased with the fact that we have completed our goals which we set every time we all went to edit in lesson, this included finishing off all the credits, we were able to colour grade all our shots also which we never thought we would do due to a time constraint, however i am also pleased with the other skills i have gained which are not media related, this includes the team work skills which i have developed after working with my group for a few months now, i believe i am now able to use these skills in later projects in my life, also following deadlines has been one of the main skills i have learnt, this is because before media AS, i was unexperienced when it comes to strict harsh deadlines, therefore after the course of a few months i have gained experience in time management, this means i am able to transfer these skills into other subjects.
Overall I am very pleased with the final outcome, I believe that we have followed the plan as closely as we could, hopefully with all the hard work that each of us has all put in we are able to receive the mark in which we are aiming for.

Finishing off title sequence
Finishing final title sequence
On the final day to finish our title sequence, my group and I came into college to finish off the final touches to the sequence. We had some goals in mine in which we wanted to complete.
- Make corrections to our credits
- Colour grade
- Create a ident for the production company
- Layer more diegetic and non diegetic sounds
The corrections for the credits include changing the location in which we had placed the credits. We originally placed the credits in a different location in every shot, after recognising this our group realised that this needed to be changed, we resolved this by placing the credits in a roughly similar location, apart from the credits where the shots were in a different setting. We also changed the font as we realised later on in the process that the sizing of the font alters in each credit which we then changed.
We also had the time to colour grade, prior to this day we did colour grade however this was minimal, therefore on this day we were able to colour grade almost every shot in the title sequence, we chose to colour grade the shots into a blue hue, this is because we wanted to follow a thriller convention and we realised that a lot of thriller movies have a blue hue to them, this was mentioned in one of my posts prior where I highlighted the importance of colour grading.
We were also able to make a production ident, we did this using after effects, we were also able to include a jingle to the ident as we realised that many have there own jingle to them such as FOX.
We added more sounds and were able to layer also, this includes having the sound of a fire cracking when shots of the candle were displayed, we also added sounds of the door closing (creaking sounds) as well as having more drone sounds and various other diegetic and non diegetic sounds.
Overall I am very pleased with the result of my title sequence, I believe our group has worked really hard creating the sequence and we have all completed our goals which we have set when creating the film opening.

Rough cut 2 Evaluation
Generally, this rough cut is quite successful and heading for a strong finish. We have definately improved the title sequence in comparison to the fist rough cut with things such as layering of sound, cut of shots and colour grading.
At this point I am confident we have created the apropriate atmosphere and mood for a pschychological thriller with the editing of the shots. One great example is when we cut up the shot of the girl running away and added blank screens inbetween. This created an eiree feeling and built suspense since there was a feeling of danger catching on to this girl.
We also added many more layers of sound at this point. After deciding to have the preacher throughout the whole title sequence, we layered it with a drone, which is what sets of our title sequence in the beginning. This is often used in thrillers and considered a popular convention.
The sounds of this organ is layered with this at around 00:50 and is very similar to a drone, which therefore connotes a sense of danger and thriller even further, while also in an incredibly suttle way hint towards the relligious motives of the film. Furthermore, it builds up the intensity as the title sequence goes on, reaching a climax just before it ends.
Our group has made some improvements with the credits of the title sequence however, this is our weakest point so far.

Rough cut 2 evaluation
Rough cut 2 evaluation

For this blog post I will be evaluating the second rough cut of our title sequence and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses and what to do in order to improve our title sequence.
Overall, I believe the rough cut our group has created is successful as we have followed the criteria we created in order to have a successful title sequence. As planned we wanted to have the preachers voice in the background through out the title sequence in order to keep the theme of religion and christianity running through the title sequence, this gives the audience context to what the movie may be about as well as the genre. The audience will mostly likely realise the genre due to the use of lighting, this is because the lighting is kept very dim and dark, which is often seen in thriller and horror movies. Also the mise en scene gives the impression of a psychological thriller also, this is because we have included objects such as the bible, various jewellery and trinkets, a cross drawn on using a lipstick, all these objects are not commonly seen in comedy movies nor romantic therefore i feel as if they fit well in the psychological thriller which we have created. We have also tried to create eerie effects using the demo light, this is shown above in the screen shot in this post, we tried to create the impression of a character looking for someone or something, therefore he is using a torch to insure he is able to find what he is looking for, again, giving the impression that this movie will be a psychological thriller.
However, I am able to recognise the flaws in the rough cut and see what I need to do in order to improve our title sequence. One of which is the credits. I believe that the credits need to be done, one reason is that when doing credits they should follow the rule of being within one section of the screen rather than having 'starring' in the top right side and the name on the bottom left side for example. Therefore I will be fixing these credits as well as the effect used on these credits as I feel that it looks out of place especially with the music as the effect is a lot faster compared to the slow pace of the background music. Also I noticed that the actual title of the movie 'Bible Belt' is placed at the end of the title sequence which needs to be changed immediately as this does not follow the conventional order of title sequence, therefore I will be changing this and placing the title at the beginning of the title sequence. Also I realised that the last shot of the title sequence felt weak compared to the other shots prior, the last shot is one of the shots taken inside the church, I feel as to make a bolder ending I will be replacing the last shot with another shot of one of the church windows where we used the demo light behind the window creating an eerie flickering effect which would go with the title sequence quite well. Also I think the font of the credits could be better, so this will be changed to a more simple typography, possiblely a font that may appear as if it was written using a type writer. We have tried to create the impression that the movie is set in The United States also, this was done by showing the globe and using a pin to pin down a location which happens to be the bible belt region, we have also tried to take shots of american style churches and dry cleaners etc.
Overall, I feel as if so far the title sequence is going well, we have tried to follow the criteria and we feel as if we have done everything we could in order to give the impression that not only that this movie is a psychological thriller but is also set in the bible belt region of the United States.

Order of titles
Our group used the conventional order of titles by starting with the production and distribution company, followed by the director and then actors, etc.
At first we were planning on putting the title of the film at the end however, after some research we discovered that this goes against the conventions of title sequences therefore, the title is the 6th credit given.
We have our director right after the distribution and production companies and right at the end, as it is they are a household name, which attracts more audience.

Evidence of incorporating sound
Evidence of incorporating sound
Below are images of our group adding sound. The sound we are choosing to incorporate are sounds of drones, organs, atmospheric sound effects, and an audio track of Paul Washer preaching. We felt as this would go well with our title sequence as we have a lot of religious imagery in our title sequence such as the shots in the church. We chose a the audio track of Paul Washer as what he said matches with our theme as he is talking about American Christianity, therefore when the audience is watching the title sequence they should get an idea of where the setting is, in our case, the bible belt of North America. We used drones as we felt that created a tense interior ambience to the title sequence which is what we are trying to achieve. By layering the sounds we are creating atmosphere and a dramatic effect, we have layered more towards the end of the title sequence when the shots of the church at the end appear, this is because we wanted the end to be more thrilling and suspenseful.
