Preferred genre for title sequence

Preferred Genre

In this blog post I will be creating my own shortlist for my preferred genres that i may use for my own title sequence which I will later on create with my group, I will then be explaining why i would like to work in this genre.

The genres I would like to work in include, drama, thriller, crime. Movies that I most enjoy fall within these genres such as Pain & Gain, The Shawshank redemption, The Godfather.

Personally, I would want the title sequence to go down the route of psychological/thrillers. Not only is this because my favourite movie falls within this genre, but also because I feel that this would also allow me to be more creative when producing the title sequence as I can attempt to produce a piece which will allow the audience to be intrigued in the characters mental state due to the use of quick shots that may include hints and clues in how the character thinks, this will then create context and will allow the audience to make their own judgements on the characters state of mind as well as suspending disbelief within the audience.

Films such as SE7EN have become so successful, partly due to the fact its title sequence caught the attention of millions as the creator of the title sequence has been credited as the man who single handily revitalised the main title sequence. I personally like the title sequence so much so that i have taken inspiration, the use of quick shots and cut ins is something that I will incorporate in my title sequence, also as I am doing  psychological thriller, I want my title sequence to portray the mind set of the main character therefore i can make sure that the quick shots and cut ins do not have a smooth transition as the characters mind set should be confused, obsessive and psychotic therefore his/her therefore it would be useless to have a smooth and ordered sequence.

Also, I've noticed that the thriller genre tends to be fairly popular with the uk audience (generating 2.9% of the box office and making £34.9 million in 2015) however I do believe it could be more popular with the audience and catch up to the popularity of the action and animation genre, so by creating a psychological thriller I will be highlighting to my audience why psychological thrillers are so entertaining and addictive, although i notice that my title sequence won't make a difference to the box office, i believe that if I change someones mind on the thriller genre, so much so that they pay too go see a thriller that will enough satisfaction.
