Blog post 32: Finding a Distribution Company

A distribution company is responsible for many things to do with the film such as buying the rights of the film, selling as many prints as possible of the film to cinemas so the film can be exhibited as well as creating a successful marketing campaign in order to draw in a wider range of audiences.

Our film will include the codes and conventions of a psychological thriller and will therefore need to be distributed by a company which has sold films of that genre before. In order to decide which distribution company would be perfect for our film, I have decided to do some research into two films that are similar to ours in terms of genre, budget and cast.

Reservoir Dogs

The Blair Witch Project

Based on my research, I think the most suited distribution company for our independent, low budget film would be either Lionsgate Films or Artisan Entertainment.

This is because they are well known for distributing low budget thriller/horror films and so they will be perfect for our film.
